Real time social media landscape seems to be changing. As per Meta, sports discussion is increasing at a fast pace on Threads where sports related creators are growing their follower communities by around million people over the last two months and seeing faster growth than any other category of influential; creators. This is a significant shift as sports remain the major topic of discussion on X.
If you see that sports fans turn to X for keeping up to date with latest news and scores and number of communities have remained embedded in the app which is based on their established groups and habitual behaviors.
If you see, UFX is putting a lot of emphasis on Threads and its signage will also be added to the octagon at UFC events. A Threads promotion is also being run with well-known UFC announcer Bruce Buffer is responding to posts of fans ahead of UFC 314.
As of now it doesn’t seem much of development but this is expected to mark a significant turning point for the app and with data showing that sports fans are now turning towards Threads which will open up a plethora of opportunities for challenger platform for superseding X.
As of now X has 600 million active users whereas Threads has 320 million active users and it has lots of steps to catch up. If Threads can win over sports fan, then this could be a giant step towards Meta beating X at its own game.
