Now Threads is working to separate itself from Instagram and in case of some EU users they will be able to create their Threads profile without using IG login. They won’t have to go through log in process of Instagram by using their phone number or email address instead. The company has confirmed that this option is already being tested with some users in the European Union region.
This is seen as step towards making Threads independent and not just relying on Meta accounts for powering your recommendations. Instagram graph data has been removed from Threads onboarding which means that profile which you follow on Instagram will not dictate its initial recommendations.
As of now, Threads is still using Instagram graph for post recommendations but now over a period of time, it is moving away from this element as well which would see that Threads would become more of its own entity and less of supplemental Instagram platform.

This seems to be a positive step where profiles which you follow on Threads and are relevant to Threads experience and different to accounts which you engage with on Instagram and recommendations depending on Instagram which Instagram don’t align with what is required from real time text based platform.
Now Threads is moving more in line with its competition like X in providing up to minute updates for helping engage in latest conversations. It has still not reached there logically this is where it wants to go and not create conversational add on which stems from Instagram.
Also, now Threads is making it easy for creators to share personal link with their followers and communities. With this link sharing update, it lets Threads user to add up to five links to their account bio and providing performance insight which shows how many people had visited links shared in profiles and posts.
Previously, only a single link was allowed to be added to Thread profile bio and this brings the platform in line with link sharing capabilities of Instagram. This would make it easier to display link options related to articles, newsletter, merchandize shopfronts and podcasts.
Now, Threads will be profiling users with link analytics which present data regarding the number of clicks received via Threads. The platform would be providing users with this information for links posted to user bio and in their posts.
Since the time it was launched, Threads has been adding new features for drawing users from X and fending off competition from emerging social platforms such as Bluesky which has also been seeing enhanced adoption in the last few months.
Meta is also looking for simplification of campaign management for brands and agencies which are already active on its ad ecosystem. Ads in the Threads home feed would be supporting objectives such as Traffic, Reach, Website Conversions and would be appearing between organic posts.
For running ads on threads, advertisers need to have Threads profile connected via Instagram. Thread ads won’t be run in isolation and Meta would be requiring Instagram feed to be selected alongside Threads within the placement group of Feeds.
Now with 350 million users and 75% of profiles follow at least one business, it is being seen as an emerging opportunity for brand discovery as Meta is integrating it into its marketing infrastructure. The API integration will also help Threads transition from experimental platform to workable ad real estate.
Seems Threads wants to give good competition to X, Let’s see how things shape up in coming months for both Threads and X as the latter would also be closely watching the moves of Threads.
Keep watching this space for next updates!
